On any given day, approximately 7% of New Mexico children from birth to three years old are eligible for early intervention services.  However, only about half are actually being identified, evaluated and served.  The  primary obstacle?  Funding. 

The actual cost of providing the needed early intervention services exceeds the reimbursement rate for providers like Alta Mira by at least $12 per hour.  Only the generosity of our  individual, corporate and foundaton donors and careful day-to-day management have bridged the widening budgetary gap. 

Despite our funding challenges, Alta Mira has never turned a family away for services because they could not pay.  By the time many families arrive at our door, intervention and support are overdue.  The first priority must be, and for Alta Mira will be, to meet the immediate needs of the family.
