What is Alta Mira?
Alta Mira Specialized Family Services is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that serves people of all ages with developmental risks, delays or disabilities throughout their lives.  Two major components are Early Childhood Services and Family Support Services.  Early Childhood Services programs include early intervention services, Project Jericho, and Respite.  Family Support Services programs include Family Living Services and Respite care.

How many people does Alta Mira serve?
Last year alone, Alta Mira served more than 1,300 families and provided over 200,000 hours of care.  Over the years, more than 5,000 families have come to us for help.  The number continues to grow.

What is Alta Mira’s mission?
Alta Mira supports individuals with developmental risks, delays or disabilities and their families to optimize quality of life.  [For more information, see the Mission and Vision section of this Web site.]  Alta Mira is distinct from other service providers in that it recognizes the family as the expert.

What impact does Alta Mira have on the people it serves and on the community?
Alta Mira’s programs promote the development of the child while building on the strengths of the family.  Services provided are unique in that they are family and relationship oriented and provide life-long, 360° support for individuals with disabilities.  Research shows that growth and development are most rapid in the early years of life. The earlier problems are identified, the greater the chance of eliminating them. Alta Mira’s Early Intervention programs respond to the critical needs of children and families by:

• promoting development and learning,
• providing support to families,
• coordinating services, and
• decreasing the need for costly special programs.

Alta Mira’s programs focus on the possibilities and potential of each child by building on the strengths of the family.  Alta Mira not only provides services to help the family help their child, but also provides supports to ensure that each family is able to maintain its routines and activities, including employment.
