Maloney's celebrates Christmas in July, raises money for Alta Mira
Wait staff at Maloney’s tavern donned flower leis and grass skirts as part of a promotion to raise money and awareness for Alta Mira Specialized Family Services, an Albuquerque nonprofit that provides early intervention and family support services to people with developmental risks delays and disabilities. The Christmas in July promotion was held at the downtown eatery on July 25, 2008 and featured a holiday beach party theme. In addition to a Christmas tree, Hawaiian shirts and Beach Boy music, the event included a toy drive, cookie sales, and a silent auction which raised $1,850.00 for Alta Mira. Donated toys will be used in Alta Mira’s early intervention program.

“Eighteen hundred dollars goes a long way at Alta Mira,” said Jim Copeland, the agency’s executive director. “And, in light of the increasingly challenging fundraising environment all nonprofits find themselves in, it’s hard to express just how much our partnership with Maloney’s means to us. Our gratitude to them is immense and heartfelt.”

“Maloney’s Tavern is an amazing company to work for,” said Maloney’s general manager, Kaleen Bailey. “Maloney’s decided to have all of their 8 locations reach out to their communities. All locations held Maloney’s very first Christmas in July event to benefit local non-profits. I’m so proud that the Albuquerque location raised the most money. I chose Alta Mira Specialized Family Services for Maloney’s Tavern Albuquerque because it is an amazing organization that has touched my life personally. Alta Mira offers support to disabled children and their families. My cousin Dustin was born blind and he was also diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Alta Mira was tremendous support to him and my family for many years. Knowing that Maloney’s Tavern and I could help them, even in a small way, means so much to me. Not only is Alta Mira an amazing organization, but its staff is the most kind-hearted, amazing group of people I have ever had the pleasure of working with,” she continued.
Many thanks to Restaurants.com, Kristen Renaud, Hyatt Regency, Premier Distributing Company, Pampered Chef - Amethyst Ross, Southern Wine and Spirits, and Albuquerque Taekwon-do for donating to the silent auction.

Intel volunteers build patio cover for respite home

Residents of Alta Mira’s respite home now have a beautiful covered patio to rest and recreate on, thanks to the efforts of nearly ten volunteers from Intel Corporation’s F11X Photo Lithography group.

The Intel volunteers met at the respite home in late May to build a permanent cover for the respite home’s patio. The original patio cover collapsed under the weight of record-setting snow falls during the harsh 2006 – 2007 winter, and since then, the patio has been virtually unusable to many of the residents who, for medical reasons, are unable to be in direct sunlight.

The project required total reconstruction and took the nine volunteers three days to complete. New concrete support footings were poured, and the structure’s frame and roof supports were installed on the first two days. On the third day, the group returned to build the roof and finish painting, even making time to paint a picnic table to put on the patio.

“The volunteers from Intel have had a real and lasting impact on the quality of life for resident’s at the respite home,” according to Jim Copeland, Alta Mira’s executive director. “Their energy, enthusiasm and commitment to helping out prove the old adage that those who can do. And, those who can do more volunteer. We’re extremely grateful for their selfless contribution.”

Many thanks to Lincoln Busselle, Duane Davis, Keith Hahn, James Hunter, Gary Newell, Hector Rojo, Dean Schwartz and Brian Weber all of Intel Corporation F11X Photo Lithography. Special thanks to Intel’s David Holets for heading up the project.
